Offered is a spectacular vintage art nouveau deco atomic pen and ink set. The base of this set is made of glass. The base feels like slag glass, but i'm not positive of this.
The glass is currently cream, not white as the pictures appear. The dip pen is made of wood. The ring around the top of the glass ball ink well is made of bakelite! The glass base measurements about 1 1/2" tall and 4 3/8" in diameter.
The glass ink well ball fits into a received area in the center of the base. When the ball is in the base, with the base it measures about 3 1/2 tall. I believe the bakelite ring used to screen onto a thread that is stored on the top of the glass ball.
The threads inside the bakelite ring appear to be stripped, so the ring presently just "sits" on the top of the ball. This can be glued to permanently affix the ring to the glass ball if desired.
The pen is made of wood and there is a thin 1/2 wood split where the metal pen tip inserts. I believe this piece is period to the art nouveau period between 1890 and 1910. Beside the mentioned issues, this atomic ink well is in excellent condition! A great addition to your collection. This item is in the category "collectibles\pens & writing instruments\inkwells".
