A Large Art Nouveau Copper Door Handle Complete with Original Lock & New Key. W & R Leggott Limited.

A good quality English art mouveau copper door handle, lock and key from the renowned Bradford based metal workers W & R Leggott. A charming original art nouveau latch style door handle in coppered cast brass. This handle comes complete with its original Leggott lock. The coppered brass has a lovely curved whip lash style handle with two mounting plates at either end.

The top is secured by four original dome headed screws and the base by one. The handle has a key hole above the thumb handle allowing the locking mechanism of the lock to be activated by the key. The handle is well stamped on the reverse with the manufacturers details as are parts of the lock eg the tumblers. The handle is cast with a subtle sweep to the left when viewed from the front. The lock is set in a steel rectangular box with brass finishing plate.

The lock has two solid brass tumblers that rise and fall on the turn of the key activating the heavy brass bolt. The handle and lock come with their original fixants: five dome headed screws for the handle; two brass grub screws for the locks finishing plate; two steel screws to secure the lock in the door and the two bolts securing the locks access plate. Condition: The handle and lock are in good used vintage condition. It must be borne in mind that as used architectural items there are marks etc from age and use. The coppering on the handle is in good bright condition. There are marks to the surface of the handle including some surface scratches. The lock has been refurbished having been cleaned ultrasonically and mechanically before re-greasing and reassembly. The steel case and components have residual surface marks from past surface rust. The lock is in good order and works as intended. All fixants have been cleaned and do have some age and use related marks. We actively encourage buyers to review the images that do constitute part of the description. As with many vintage/antique items the handle, lock and key do have marks from past use and age. Dimensions: The handle measures 34.3cm long.

The top mounting plate measures 6cm wide. The base mounting plate measures 4cm wide. The lock measures 14.5cm x 5.9cm x 1.6cm.

The finishing plate measures 19.2cm x 2.9cm. A handsome vintage art nouveau handle and lock that is sure to add grace to the appropriate setting.. We respectfully ask all recipients to carefully inspect packages and contents prior to providing signature.
